Castiel Wins TV Guide Poll for Favorite Non Human (2011)

Why We Love Castiel
(spoilers up until the current episode of season six of Supernatural)

CW Supernatural Promo: Castiel played by Misha Collins

Max and I would like to congratulate Misha Collins and his much loved character Castiel for winning the TV Guide Poll for Favorite Non-Human. We’ve decided to list why we love the exotic and adorable Angel Castiel. We haven't done this for any character or actor on Supernatural. This honor shall go to Misha Collins. Congratulations!

1.We’ll start off with Misha Collins. That’s why we love Castiel. Mr. Collins is good looking, intelligent, and witty. He’s kind and caring. Misha is a solid actor and a wonderful addition to the Supernatural family. The former White House intern has charmed his way into our hearts as the Angel Castiel.

2.Castiel had the best introduction of a character, ever, in Supernatural. With bullets flying and lights exploding, the angel saunters gracefully into a dilapidated barn draped with sigils to confront hunters Dean and Bobby. How amazing was that? It was truly the best intro in SPN history.

3.He’s adorable drunk. Perhaps Cas needs to stay away from liquor stores, but we had a great time watching him work inebriated in  “99 problems”.

4.We like his clothes. He’s an angel in a trench coat, tie, and dress pants.

5.Castiel is willing to acknowledge that he’s conflicted. Castiel is a higher being, and yet, he realizes that his existence steams from a questionable source.

6.He’s brave. Time and time again, Castiel has saved Sam and Dean and will fight other angels because of his faith in the Brothers Winchester. He was willing to be a decoy as seen in “Point of No Return” and he was willing to go down with Team Free Will in “Swan Song”.

7.Castiel is quirky. Come on, he is. He’s an angel with a cell phone. He allowed Dean to take him to strip club. He watched porn and then kissed a demon in “Caged Heat”. Was that just practice?

8.He’s funny, but I don’t think he realizes how funny he is. His dead pan is marvelously entertaining. I loved the way Castiel deducted that Moses could not be a suspect in “The Third Man”. How about the failed hug intended for a newly restored Sam? Awkward.

9.His fascination with Dean Winchester.  We are going to have to explain this one. Max and I have include this because Dean was the catalyst for change in Castiel. Dean challenges Castiel’s view of heaven, hell, and of human beings. Dean has altered Castiel’s path. Easily, one can say that God put Dean in Castiel’s path, but Dean seems to throw a wrench in higher authority in general. Besides, Castiel does share a profound bond with Dean.

10.He’s a member of Team Free Will.

Did we forget anything? Feel free to let us know.
