CW/Supernatural screen cap: Dean Winchester
Going head to head with immensely popular Darren Criss, Jensen Ackles surpasses the young star to win the E Online poll: Alpha Male Madness 2011. I’ve been following the poll from up close and afar and I feel that I must voice my opinion. This poll has been peculiar, no?
It’s listed as a poll to crown the Alpha Male of 2011, yet actor names are listed, not character names. It should read Dean Winchester and Blain Anderson.
I don’t watch Glee sadly, but I know a handful of people who watch it and enjoy it. Darrin Criss seems like a genuinely sweet person who is extremely talented. Mr. Criss can sing, dance, and is a successful composer. He’s a fellow musician, violinist, and musical theater lover. His mother is from Cebu, my mother is from Manila, high five. His character, Blain Anderson, an openly gay high school student, has been a role model for many viewers. Darrin also has a strong following. I’m glad, he seems like a talented actor and I wish him well. If anything, I think coming in second has made me very curious about this young talent. I’ll be watching a few episodes of Glee just for Darrin Criss. Perhaps if the poll were labeled The Most Inspirational Character, Blain Anderson would have easily won. I guess we’ll never know.
Now my question is why were these two characters in the same poll? One is on a drama/musical and the other is on a drama/fantasy show. The poll has been unsettling in the final stages pitting Jensen/Dean against Misha/Castiel. It got worse when brothers Dean (Ackles) and Sam (Padalecki) competed against each other. Then there was the face off with Darren Criss against Nathan Fillion. I’ve only watched a few episodes of Castle, but Mr. Fillion caught my attention with Firefly. I voted for Nathan Fillion. Which of course, brings me to another question. Did I vote for an actor because of a previous character and not his current one? Yes.
We’ll all have to realize that these online polls are just for fun. It’s a popularity contest. But hopefully it’s a popularity contest that will bring positive exposure for all of the actors/characters who were nominated.

It’s been a long road, but the crowned Alpha Male is Jensen Ackles…or shall I say Dean Winchester. Jensen Ackles is the insanely spectacular talent behind the iconic character of Dean Winchester. Mr. Ackles is an intense actor, and superb storyteller. He sings, plays the guitar, and has dabbled in songwriting. Jensen Ackles also made his directorial debut in the well received episode, "Weekend At Bobby's", one of the very few exceptional episodes during an experimental season.
Dean Winchester, the determined older brother, Impala driving, gravel voiced hunter and hero prevails. He has killed angels, monsters, vampires, and demons. He’s been a good husband/boyfriend and father; and he managed to baby sit the shell of his brother while smoking out his shady grandfather.
Congratulations Jensen Ackles for dominating the tournament once again.
